We were called to arms
Not understanding fully;
The reasons how or why
Germany was a bully.

We thought we'd be home soon
It went on for so long;
We never recovered fully
Everything went wrong.

The pain and darkness
The cold and the wet;
The nightmares
Breaking out in sweat.

On the eleventh day
Of the eleventh month November;
At the eleventh hour
It ended!!!!!
 This we will always remember.

As other wars drag on and on
We remember how it started;
Back in 1914
Not for the faint hearted.

Weapons never heard of
Invented by the Huns;
It didn't matter what we did
They always had better ones.

Until the Spitfires came along
Brave pilots by the score;
They showed them pretty quick
Until they were no more.

Were there any winners
Not really as we see;
The lessons still carry on
Not learned them have we??

For those whose price was ultimate
The most precious price of all;
We will always remember them
On Armistice Day in roll call.

My grandad played cards
On Christmas Day with them;
The very next time they met
With rifles looking down the stem.

He hesitated; Grandad never
So grandad told the tale;
About the Hun he beat at cards
The taste left went stale.

His nightmares never ended
They were always the very same;
About that day when he saw
Just how his job did maim.

All told him he'd done well
To come back home to them;
But life never did return
His soul he felt condemned.

Peace be the way
The only way to go;
Arguing has bad seeds
Bad seeds that sow.

We humans cannot get to grips
Without the greed and hate;
Love and peace is the way
The only way that's great.

May the souls of all those lost
Be at peace and rest;
Now it's up to us all
Will we pass the test!
